Green Team Challenges

Below are some unique, sustainability-related challenges offered by The Big League at the Green Team Challenge event:

Design and Build

Aim of the challenge is to build an innovative, eco-friendly model of a car or a bicycle or whatever mode of transport that can be built from the components in the toolkit that's made available to the participants. The mode of transport should be pulled as far as possible. Points are awarded for innovation and eco-friendliness, quality of the build, roadworthiness, time completed and team planning and coordination.

Water Carry On

Aim of the challenge is to transfer as much water as possible from a shallow water well to a storage tank within the permitted time slot. The participants role play as volunteers carrying out vital missionary work in a remote village in Africa, which has only one water source for 400 villagers. The water well is about to be contaminated by disease caused by rhinos who have wreaked havoc in the neighbouring villages rendering their water supply contaminated and undrinkable. The only means of saving the water in this village is to transfer it onto higher ground and into secure storage tanks. The team must work hard and fast to save the vital water supply as the rhino’s are fast approaching! Points are awarded for how much water the teams were able to transfer and conserve (minimise spillage), speed, planning and collaboration.

Orient Express

Aim of the challenge is to design and build a bridge and safety trolley to move casualty patients from one side of a river to the other. The participants role play as ordinary citizens out for a walk. Along the river banks, they find a group of injured people who need to be rushed to hospital as quickly and safely as possible. The ambulance’s route is cut off by a broken bridge. The river that it used to span across has a very strong current. The task is to build a bridge and self-supporting trolley using only eco-friendly materials to hastily but safely move the injured to the other side of the river. Points are awarded for the creative use of eco-friendly building materials, speed, teamwork, and success.

The Big League Picture

Aim is to create the bigger picture of The Big League sustainability initiative. Without having access to all the pieces of a puzzle; each team creatively imagines what the black and white puzzle could represent based on the 16 puzzle pieces they have in hand. The team is required to paste their parts and colours the puzzle on a board. The team that gets the puzzle right wins! If it's a tie-breaker, points are awarded for accuracy, speed, and team effort.

Green Science

Aim is to build wind turbines and a water purification filter. Each team is divided into 2 sub-teams of 3. One sub-team works on the wind Turbine science kit and the other on the water filter science kit. The task of the former sub-team is to harness the power of the wind and transform it into electricity while the latter's task is to build a water filtration and desalination that, disinfect water with solar power. Points are awarded for creativity, speed, teamwork, and success.

Word Spell

Aim is to spell as many sustainability-related words as possible within a limited time period. using a life-sized, sliding letter board. Only one participant from a team can be off the board at any given point and every other participant in the team is only allowed a maximum of two moves on the board. Points are awarded based on number of words spelled correctly.

Sustainability City VR Game

Aim is to build a virtual sustainable city. All team participants are required to use a VR headset, collaborate, and follow precise instructions to digitally build a sustainable city. Points are awarded for creativity, speed, teamwork, and success.

In addition to several other main challenges, there are also sub-challenges that help teams raise their overall score. The challenges and sub-challenges are subject to change without notice at the discretion of the management and on-site instructors.
